Terms of Service
Effective date: October 7, 2026
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your use of “Compris!” (the “App”), a Windows application provided by Compris! (the “Operator”). By installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms.
1. About the App
- The App transcribes and translates lectures and meetings in real time and uses AI to create summaries, notes, vocabulary lists and quizzes.
- Your recordings, transcripts and notes are stored on your own PC. They are not sent to the Operator’s servers (see the Privacy Policy).
2. Free trial
- You can try every feature free for 7 days, counted from the day you make your first recording (or import your first file).
- After the trial, new recordings, file imports and AI features are unavailable until you enter a license key. You can still view and export your existing recordings, notes and vocabulary.
3. Purchasing a license
- The license is a one-time purchase. After purchase you receive a license key that lets you use the App without a time limit.
- One license key can be activated on up to 3 PCs used by the purchaser. You may not transfer, resell or share your license key.
- Sales and payments are handled by Polar Software, Inc. (“Polar”) as the Merchant of Record. Prices, taxes and payment methods are shown at checkout. You can view receipts and your order history in Polar’s customer portal.
4. Third-party AI services and their fees
- Transcription, translation and AI features use third-party services that you register yourself (such as Deepgram, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, DeepL and Google Translate). You contract with these services directly and must follow their terms.
- You pay these services’ usage fees (API fees) directly to them. Cost estimates shown in the App or on the website are not guarantees of actual charges.
- Changes to a third-party service’s specifications, pricing or availability may make some features of the App unavailable.
5. Recording
- Before recording or transcribing a lecture or meeting, obtain permission from the lecturer, organizer or participants where required. You are responsible for complying with your school’s or company’s rules and with applicable laws.
6. Prohibited conduct
- Decompiling or modifying the App, or circumventing license checks
- Recording in violation of laws or rules, or infringing the rights of others (such as copyright or privacy)
- Distributing or selling the App or license keys without permission
7. Updates and discontinuation
- The Operator may add or change features. A one-time license does not promise all future updates or support.
- The Operator may end distribution or support of the App after giving notice on the website. In that case, the Operator will make reasonable efforts to let existing license holders keep using the version they have.
8. Refunds
- If you contact us within 14 days of purchase, we will refund you for any reason. Refunds are processed through Polar, and the refunded license key will stop working.
- These Terms do not limit any refund or withdrawal rights you have under the laws of your country.
9. Disclaimer
- Speech recognition, translation and AI-generated content may contain errors. We do not guarantee accuracy or completeness. For important matters such as exams, contracts or medical topics, always check the original or official sources.
- We do not guarantee that the App works on every PC, microphone or network. Please use the free trial to check that it works for you before purchasing.
10. Limitation of liability
Except in cases of the Operator’s intent or gross negligence, the Operator’s liability for any damage arising from your use of the App is limited to the amount you paid for the license. Please back up your recordings and notes as needed.
11. Changes to these Terms
The Operator may update these Terms when necessary. Important changes will be announced on the website or in the App.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and the Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over disputes relating to the App. This does not limit the rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your country of residence.
